Danielle & Sachi: Handpainted watercolor blush pink gold foil wedding invitation
The theme: What was special about Danielle and Sachi’s watercolor wedding invitations was the fact that they had not one, but two weddings! The first wedding was an Indian ceremony to honor Sachi’s Indian heritage and the second wedding was a Catholic ceremony for Danielle and her family. The two weddings were entirely different themes: the Indian wedding was bold and colorful with lots of cultural elements, while the church wedding was meant to be elegant and luxurious. My task was to take these two different wedding themes and blend them into one wedding invitation!
I decided to make the envelope liner the “Indian element” of the suite. As elephants are huge in the Indian culture (and coincidentally one of my favorite animals ever) I painted two elephants with their trunks forming a heart- symbolizing unity and love. I then added lotus flowers as an additional Indian touch. The invitation itself was more on the elegant side- with handpainted watercolor peonies, lotus flowers and mixed gold foil leaves.
The colors: Danielle’s color palette included blush pinks, golds, and whites- so I kept my watercolors to shades of blush pinks, hot pinks, and pops of green. Adding the gold foil was the cherry on the top!
