I am going to start off with a statement: There are no more bohemian earrings than feather earrings! It’s not a surprise then that feather earrings are one of my favorite accessory- plus they are so easy to make, I guarantee you will probably make 5 or 6 at once. These yellow and white “double layer” earrings are one of my favorite pairs! And this is how I made them:
What you will need to make a pair of feather earrings:
2 sets of feathers: one long and one short (*you can buy a large bag of mixed feathers)
jewelry tools
2 beads
eye pins
ear hooks
First, layer the two feathers and secure them by sliding a bead on top. Now, what’s important is that the bead is fairly tight around feathers and holds them together well. It may take a while to find the perfect bead. Make sure it’s not too tight either, though, because there needs to be room to run an eye pin through.
As pictured above, take your eye pin and run it through the bead- from bottom to top.
The eye pin will fill the opening of the bead, holding everything together. To ensure a good fit, simply hold the eye pin and see if the feathers aren’t loose. If they are, you will need to find a bead with a smaller hole. Once it fits, we will need to make a circle out of this eye pin to put ear hooks on. Use your jewelry tools to crete “an eye” and cut the excessive wire. Slide on ear hooks and rock them immediately!
I love my feather earrings! Are you a going to make one yourself? They make really fun Christmas gifts, too!
