Only about five years ago, you never received an invitation to a wedding with a cute map addition. You never showed up to a wedding and got an amazing welcome bag with an awesome map card in it. You were never able to display a cool watercolor map as part of the decor.
How very sad those days had been.
In the past several years, wedding maps have become an almost a standard part of a wedding stationery package. In fact, as a creator of wedding invitations, I hardly ever produce a suite that doesn’t include a map. Why? Because maps are awesome! They add a flair of personality and style to your wedding AND at the same time are this incredible personalized keepsake for your home.
Since I get a ton of questions about wedding maps, their purpose and the process, I wanted to answer some of your FAQs in a post.
What can a wedding map by used for?
One of my favorite things about wedding maps is how versatile they are! They can be used as:
-wedding invitation itself, like this map/invitation folded combo
-wedding invitation insert (separate fun card) or rsvp/detail maps
-Save the Date Map
-in welcome bags (add timeline on the back!)
-as a welcome booklet
-display at your wedding
-a larger version can be displayed at your home
What landmarks should I include
I would suggest anything relating to the wedding (ceremony and reception locations, guest hotels, favorite buildings, and fun additions- like boats, trees, roads, signs, pets, favorite drinks & food & activities). No limits here!
Do I get to pick the landmarks/colors/style?
Yes, 100%
What’s the turnaround on a custom map?
Depending on the size/scope of project, can range between 3 weeks and 2 months.
Do I get a physical copy or digital file
One or the other or both- depending on your needs!
How much does a custom wedding map cost?
Pricing starts at $225 for a standard 5″ X 7″ or 5.5″ X 8.5″ (perfect for invites and welcome maps). Larger sizes (welcome booklets, trifold invitations, custom large maps) depend on the size and scope.
What’s the map creating process?
I have a process sheet that send all my clients, that explains the process in a very easy way.
How many maps have you created?
Fun question! To be honest, I haven’t officially counted, but over the course of the past few years, it’s probably reaching triple digits. Maps are my absolute favorite thing to create- I am the unofficial watercolor map queen. 🙂
